Aging is a mistake! Americans are accelerating the aging process, causing unnecessary disease and disability. The body is a self-repairing system. Aging is caused when we don’t keep up with the repairs and we accumulate repair deficits. The same thing happens with your car. If you don’t keep up with the maintenance, it ends up in a junk yard. If you don’t keep up with your daily repairs, you end up in a nursing home, unable to care for yourself.

The big problem today is that our poor diets do not supply all of the repair materials we need to do our daily repairs. Meanwhile our toxic environment is doing more damage than ever, so our need for repairs is the highest ever. This is a bad combination. The “normal” loss of function, disability, and diseases of aging that we are experiencing is something we are creating, and we need to stop doing that.

Most of the damage done to our cells and tissues happens through a process called oxidation. This is why supplementing with antioxidants helps to improve health and protect against aging. Most Americans are chronically deficient in key nutrients, including the antioxidant vitamins C and E. To slow the aging process, eat more fresh, organic fruits and vegetables. Eat fewer processed foods, and cut the sugar out of your life. Sugar ages you every time you eat it. Smoking is not an option. Cigarette smoke contains over 4000 different chemicals, most of which are toxic. These toxins cause oxidation damage to the body, accelerate aging, make you sick, depress immunity, and cause cancer. The tars cause obstructive lung disease, and the nicotine increases blood pressure.  Smoking also increases the stickiness of blood platelets, increasing the risk of blood clots.

Supplement with a high-quality multivitamin as well as vitamins C and E and beta-carotene. When you are 80, you should be measuring as 30.  Aging the way we are doing it is a big mistake.
